Heart – [MBNel]

Ever since the homie put me onto MBNel a few months ago, I haven’t stopped being impressed by the Stockton, California native. He just has this way of telling his story that comes through so authentically and pure without any need for embellishment considering he has lived through the struggles that he details in his music first-hand. Not only this, but his flows are always flawless, and his deliveries change up constantly which ensures that his music is always fresh and creative.

Most recently, he took to the internet to drop off a brand-new visual for his record “Heart” which is yet another example of just how powerful his narratives can be within each and every one of his songs. In the Director Carrington-directed music video, we are transported to a film studio of some sort where MBNel makes his way around the premises. As it begins, a door opens to reveal the rapper sitting at a table as animated snakes slither out of the picture, possibly being used as a metaphor for the snitches and other un-loyal people he has dealt with throughout his life.

As the beat drops, he gets up and stands in front of a green screen in order for an edited-in inferno to come to life in his rearview along with other backdrops before he moves on to another setting. When he walks down the hall, things such as blood-spattering explosions begin to take shape right behind him as if to signify the fact that he has dodged some unfavorable downfalls by the skin of his teeth, but he knows that others simply weren’t as lucky. Eventually, he makes his way through a makeshift prison where inmates fight and try to survive before taking a mugshot of his own. Finally, he ends his long journey in the courthouse, but something tells me this isn’t the very end of the story because MBNel always has some more stories to share.

All in all, this is another remarkable offering from the Stockton emcee, and I can’t wait to see what else he’s going to follow this up with. Out of all the interesting storylines that he details throughout the record, I think one of the coolest things was the fact that this visual seemed to be shot entirely in one take which must have been difficult, but the results are magnificent so it was worth the effort without a doubt. Last year was a massive leap in the right direction for MBNel and I can only expect this year to be even better for him, so make sure you stay up to date with the rising talent and tune into his most recent offering “Heart”.
