It seems like every single year, there is a handful of artists that I finally check out, and I become fully obsessed with the remarkable music they have brought to life. This year, it seems like my world was consumed by hyperpop artists considering it was just such a new and innovative sound, but one of the artists outside of this realm was Keshore, and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to everything he put out, even if it was from years and years ago.
Nonetheless, Sunset Diary was a project that I still have playing on repeat and simply can’t get enough of it, but I’m never going to complain for even a second when Ke puts out something new. His singles are always a spectacle in and of themselves, so when I saw that he was celebrating the holiday season at the end of last week with his song “Hate”, I couldn’t wait to tune in. Once I did, I was blown away by the diversity that Ke brought to the table, incorporating a pop-punk-inspired instrumental full of pungent guitar strums, kick drums, and tempo-setting percussive elements that come together for a foundation that isn’t necessarily hip-hip sounding, but still absolutely amazing.
When Ke comes in, he shows off a passionate yet tranquil delivery, heightening the pitch of his voice to sing along over the beat in an effortless and compelling fashion. Even though he is discussing his hatred for someone who seems to be a love interest of his that went wrong, he does so tastefully and lets his personality do the talking instead of blatantly just screaming his disgust into the microphone, and I think this way of doing things makes it that much more enjoyable as he gets his message across seamlessly. Keshore is a man of many talents and “Hate” shows yet another amazing side of himself and his artistry, making it a record you’re not going to want to miss out on moving forward.
