In the current day and age of music, it is genuinely hard for me to not get excited about the next generation of hitmakers, and I couldn’t be more excited for the direction that these musicians are heading in. Out of everyone, I think my personal favorite (or at least the artist who I believe has the most consistently exciting releases, creative outlook, and overall vision) is DC the Don, a Los Angeles by way of Milwaukee emcee who really needs no introduction at this point, especially considering I think I’ve written about the majority of his releases over the past couple of years.
His second studio album My Own Worst Enemy dropped in February and quickly gained my attention thanks to its double persona narrative that aided in the inclusivity of two different sides of DC. This was awesome because it not only gave us a storyline that was super interesting, but it also gave DC an easy excuse to show off a ton of different sides of his skillset while gifting listeners a wide array of styles that he seems to dominate. While I still listen to this project on the regular, I was itching for new music, and this void was luckily filled with his brand-new LouieOTK-produced record “HATE IT OR LOVE IT”.
The instrumental goes just about as hard as we can expect from the rapidly rising emcee, and his charismatic energy is never anything less than full throttle, which gets me excited for his continuing dominance in this industry. As he spits, he just oozes talent and vivaciousness while rotating through triplet flows that diversify as the track goes on. Whenever OUTLAW has creative direction in a video, you already know that it’s going to slap just as hard as the song itself, and Seveneight’s direction in this one is once again captivating.
Just spending the day at home, we are taken to various parts of the house as a motley crew of homies chill with the young emcee and get into some random, out-of-nowhere shenanigans that act as a great addition to this amazing new song. DC the Don already has a fan in me for life and considering I am confident he’s only going to continue to get better as time goes on, there is no doubt in my mind that he’ll be at the top in a matter of no time, so I am just thrilled to get to witness his dominance so far as he keeps adding to his sonic repertoire.
