HABITS – [whiterosemoxie]

Although Detroit’s music scene has been popping off locally for years and years at this point, it feels like on a national level, they’re just getting started. Over the past couple of years, some of the most appealing music in the world has come from the Motor City, and while there is a trademark style that seems to be catching most of the attention, this notoriety is putting the city on the map as well as countless other emcees. Despite the fact that he makes music that sounds completely different from the street-inspired anthems that artists like Icewear Vezzo and Babyface Ray have brought to life, I firmly believe that one of the best overall musicians in Detroit is whiterosemoxie.

Not only is he one of my favorite homies in the business, but he has legitimately never dropped a bad song which is a goal that most artists aim for, but come up short every now and then. There is just something about his music that feels like it should be played on the speakers at the largest events in the world, whether it’s the Super Bowl, the Grammys, or anywhere else that could compare in scale to those occasions, and his charisma is more than enough to captivate millions as soon as he graces a mic.

I’m constantly listening to his previously released tracks, and after finding out that he dropped an EP entitled HABITS not too long ago, I was entranced by the carefully curated manner that he built with these 7 songs. Spanning almost 18 minutes in length, moxie wastes no time getting straight into the action with a powerful cadence, pounding 808s, and lively melodies, the majority of which are created by Jay Cribbs on the production front.

After setting the tone early, he is able to afford to try out a few different styles that we haven’t necessarily heard from him prior to now, but he shows that when you have a gift as impressive and flexible as his, you can do anything with ease, composure, and flair. As to not flood this handful of records with tons of guests, he includes only two in Daboat and BIGBABYGUCCI, both of whom contribute excellent roles to their respective tracks but still allow moxie to dominate at every turn, but that’s expected from the D-Town phenom at this point in his career.

I am beyond excited for the bright future that stands in front of whiterosemoxie because I know he’s going to be an absolute star (he already is in my eyes), and while I say this about other artists from time to time, I firmly believe that moxie is the one to take over and make a splash. At the same time, HABITS is just the tip of the iceberg for the rising star, and you’re not going to want to miss out on this spectacle anytime soon.
