There are two things that are required for me to really enjoy a song: Firstly, the energy of the song (that includes vocal performance, emotion in tone, message, and more). Secondly, the production must cause my head to bop or create some sort of bodily movement.
With that said, I’d like to introduce Castor Raines. Coming from Nashville Tennessee, the 22-year-old rapper possesses a strong voice, has the ability to spit witty bars, and has incredible production. His recently released single, ‘Good Guy,’ is a blend of clever rhymes and an extremely smooth sample. Produced by Godzrt, the beat contains elements of both trap and use of sample similar to that of The Weeknd, creating a one of a kind listening experience.
The song describes the resentment Castor feels towards his father perspective on the rapper’s ambitions, an explanation as to why the deep vocals are followed by a high pitched, ‘Clown.’ In short, the rapper does not have any concern what people have to say about him reaching for the stars and chasing after his dreams.
The emcees message is backed up by the success of his last project, ‘Insomniac.’ With a project in the works with collaborations from artists across the country, Castor Raines is definitely an artist to keep on your radar.
