Gang Gang – [Danny Wolf] & [Bobby Shmurda]

It truly is crazy how fast time flies sometimes, but I guess it depends on the person and on the situation. Back towards the beginning of the 2010s, we found out that Bobby Shmurda was going to be locked up for numerous years, and at the start of that sentence, it seemed like his release day would never come. Fast forward a handful of years, and it seems like so much has happened in the world that when he finally got out of jail last year, I couldn’t believe that the time had already passed, and I was definitely super excited.

New York’s drill scene was absolutely booming and I’m sure Bobby was itching to get back in the studio, but it does seem like things have moved relatively slowly in terms of music releases on his end. He has released a number of songs, but I definitely feel as if he’s amping up to something much bigger, and that’s something I can’t wait for. As far as Danny Wolf is concerned, he is a producer who has pretty much created the soundscape for most of the underground music I have come to love over the past decade or so, and even though the two’s link-up wasn’t expected on last year’s song “Splash”, I was even more excited to find out they teamed up once again for a new track entitled “Gang Gang” over the weekend.

Danny got a bit of assistance from John Lam on the instrumental where they include some intense and powerful melodies with terse hats and claps as well as bouncy, sliding drums that definitely bring the energy to this offering. Once Bobby comes in, though, he is able to show off his very captivating personality with an intricate, diverse cadence that grows consistently as he gets deeper and deeper into the single. While I’m not sure if this is going to be just another single from the rapper and producer duo or if it might lead to bigger, more cohesive works in the future, I’m just happy that we have new music from both artists, making “Gang Gang” an immediate listen whenever you find a minute or two.
