Fin – [Chase Aaron]

Although Rap is usually my go-to genre, I have such a respect and appreciation for artists who make other kinds of music, as well. Whether that’s Rock, R&B, Soul, EDM, or others, I try and look deeper than the music and the artist themselves to reveal whatever message they’re trying to get across to listeners. Here at Lyrical Lemonade, the majority of our coverage might have to do with Rap music, but when we hear something different that is as captivating as it is beautiful, we can’t just let these offerings go by the wayside.

Insert Chase Aaron, an artist who I’m not extremely familiar with and don’t know much about, but when I heard his most recent single “Fin”, I could hold myself back from writing about it. This is my introduction to the incredible singer, but his talents don’t end with his vocals. It turns out he also produced this record on his own, and even designed the single’s cover art, so to say he’s a man of many talents is an understatement.

As for his production, he includes some momentous, attention-grabbing synths that echo off into the distance and resound within your brain from the moment you press play. From here, he includes some lighthearted, hopeful percussive elements and includes even more building synths that allude to some epic release, which never truly comes as he instead opts to remain peaceful and serene throughout the entire track. He begins to sing virtually right off the bat, showing off his tenor voice that possesses as much emotion as it does artistry.

Although he seems to be keeping a relatively composed disposition, there is this inexplicable power that shines through with every word he sings, proving that even without elevating his enthusiasm much, he has this natural command and dominance behind his delivery that is simply captivating. His angelic voice just catches your attention from the moment he begins singing, and each individual stanza comes through with more meaning and passion than any of its predecessors, keeping you compelled to ingest every single line he recites. Despite the title’s name, alluding to the end of something, his message throughout this song is the fact that no matter how close this relationship he’s discussion might be to coming to a close, he’s going to do everything in his power to make sure it remains solid and put together, despite other clues hinting at the connection’s culmination.

While some of the elements of the song allude to some major drop and a change of pace, this never comes, leaving you on a bit of a cliff hanger as Chase instead remains fairly even-keeled throughout the entire record. While other artists might have a hard time drawing listeners in and keeping their intrigue without some sort of epic moment, Chase’s voice is beyond powerful and takes over this role, never needing any major breakdown to truly make this song great.

As soon as I began listening, I was getting Frank Ocean vibes immediately, and although this is a style in and of itself, that’s some of the highest praise I can give due to the fact that Frank is one of my favorite artists in the industry, and I think Chase is on the perfect path with his early beginnings in his career. I’m not even sure what to classify this style as, but I think it can be possibly described as a mixture between R&B, Indie, and Soul, with some other influences thrown in, but it’s just one of those records you have to hear to understand my point of view. “Fin” is the perfect tranquil track that’ll keep your Monday peaceful and calm, so make sure you tune into Chase Aaron’s latest single as soon as you possibly can.
