As we all know Atlanta is a hotbed for budding talent, especially when it comes to Hip Hop. Over the past decade, and even many years before that, artists from the Georgia capitol have been at the center of pop culture, receiving critical acclaim for their work and overall praise for their ability to remain on the cutting edge of experimentation when it comes to music. It is these bold, impassioned ideas, which have since become synonymous with the city, that lead me to introduce the incomparable dynamic stylings of ATLANTA XAY. The lyrically dense, sonically fluid rap artist just released his new four-track Everything Under the Moon EP; delivering a vibrant example of the emerging artist’s continued evolution and sonic refinement. Pay very close attention to ATLANTA XAY this year because he will not be going anywhere anytime soon.
Opened by the bass-rattling undertones of “Fences,” ATLANTA XAY opens his new EP with a powerful introduction that highlights his ability to string rhymes together seemingly effortlessly. Supported by feature-mate Cam the Artisan, the Atlanta native creates and simultaneously foreshadows a thunderous EP. The project’s second record, “Golden Glide,” is undoubtedly my favorite from the bite-sized showcasing. ATLANTA XAY builds on the opening record’s energy from a production standpoint while also maintaining an elite level of confidence lyrically alongside his fellow rapper Contera$. The two exchange verses amidst the rumbling production utilizing the song’s predominately flute-led melody as their transport across the otherwise rough terrain. “ZigZag” can best be described as the project’s interlude of sorts. The calmer mentality of the production and relaxed vocal delivery from both XAY and Fitzroy create a weightless feeling – a momentary pause. To no surprise, the EP’s closer, “Cuttroat Freestyle,” is a murderous display of XAY’s undeniable talent as a rapper. ATLANTA XAY is successfully evolving into something bigger than himself, allowing his growth to come organically which leaves listeners like me incredibly eager to hear what he will release next.
