Every Time We Step – [Lil Loaded]

Lil Loaded hasn’t had a very average rise to fame, and that’s what makes his story even more interesting. Although I wasn’t too familiar with his previous work, I decided to do some digging to figure out just how this guy got his start and why people have been buzzing about him consistently for such a long period of time. It turns out that he gained recognition after a Youtuber reacted to the music video for his song “6locc 6a6y”, which is now most likely his most recognizable offering. After he started to blow up, rather than going directly out to celebrate and forgetting what his goals were, he hit the studio and continued to grind in order to not just be a one-hit-wonder. This is by far the right move if you ask any veteran artist because he was able to keep this wave of virality going with new music, making it virtually impossible to forget the Dallas up and comer. While it’s still clear that he’s got a very long way to go, it’s beyond safe to say that his future is bright and we’re going to be hearing his name for quite some time moving forward.

Although I’m a few days late to his most recent single “Every Time We Step”, that doesn’t mean I wasn’t impressed by any means. A mixture of higher, faster-paced piano keys and deeper, more foundational piano chords create the foundation for this hit, as hopeful synths, hard-hitting percussion, and drums come in to bring this track to new heights. The percussion is very telltale of drill music while the piano somewhat shares an opposite vibe. Loaded’s voice is aggressive and hostile, but also has a touch of harmoniousness that is played up by the autotuned effects on his voice. His vocals are even more impressive because they seem to be layered, making it feel as if there’s an entire army reciting the words in unison as opposed to just the one singular, powerful rapper.

His voice on this track kind of screams drill, but it isn’t the same exact style that you’d get from Chicago or New York. It seems to have a wider gap between the melodious beat and the belligerent words being spoken, bringing a lighter melody into a much darker and intimidating place. As he begins spitting in the first verse, his voice seems to ditch some of the layers as he gets more and more insistent with a lower pitch than the hook. His cadence is steady and appealing, bouncing along and pairing with the production pretty seamlessly.

Some of the topics he discusses throughout include giving himself props for the impressive amount of flows he uses in just one verse, shooting like the late Kobe Bryant, as well as continuously working and grinding, among many others.

While I have no clue what to actually expect from Lil Loaded moving forward, I can say with the utmost certainty that he’s got a bright future ahead of him. He seems to have a good head on his shoulders and the work ethic that is needed to become a superstar, so I can see him delivering a plethora of new music as time progresses. His talent is apparent and although I think certain flows and other skills could certainly use some polishing up, the basis he has already formed puts him in a much better position than some other artists I can think of. I’m assuming we’ll be receiving a new project at some point as a follow-up to last year’s 6locc 6a6y debut offering, but only time will tell on that front. All I know is that I’m super excited to see what Lil Loaded’s next move is going to be because I can almost guarantee it’ll be an impressive one. “Every Time We Step” gives fans another reason for why they need to keep up with the rising Dallas star, so listen to it as soon as you get a chance.
