Somewhere within the intersection of pop music, electronic music, and hip-hop exists a genre-defying artist by the name of Tony Velour. Unable to be placed into any one box, Velour’s music is electrifying in a wonderful, unclassifiable way, deterring itself from any limits placed unto him with every new release to date. Just a few weeks back, the budding talent graced the Lyrical Lemonade pages with “Wild,” and today, he’s ready to keep the momentum moving with yet another new release, “Elastic.”
Clocking in at just under 3 minutes, “Elastic” is a self-produced offering that finds Velour juggling love-minded, vulnerable lyrics with an ethereal set of instrumentation. The result is an otherworldly combination between the two, tugging at the heart strings while simultaneously giving listeners the urge to get up and dance, just as Velour does in the music video — in the middle of the woods and even in a fountain, might I add, all while wearing a suit.
Quite clearly, “Elastic” follows in the footsteps of Velour’s past releases as an offering that refuses classification, and as a result, it’s a breath of fresh air, if not anything else. It’s no secret that the music world is highly oversaturated, so to hear an artist so proudly and unapologetically curate a track record of unpredictable sounds from one release to the next is something truly, truly special.
