I owe a handful of emcees a debt of gratitude for the impact they have had on my music taste throughout the years. Considering the West Coast is a place that really influenced my preference in terms of style, personality, and overall charisma, this is one of the first places I look to for new music, whether it’s from prominent OGs or exciting up-and-comers. At the very top of my list of favorite California emcees, you can find 03Greedo, a dominating figure and envelope pusher of the music scene on that side of the country.
He instantly grabbed my attention when I first checked out his music because his voice is just so individualistic, his experiences are captivating, and his imagination is unmatched, helping him stand out from a crown of Cali counterparts that were fighting to prove their uniqueness just as much. Unfortunately, Greedo turned himself in for a charge that is going to keep him locked up for a number of years, but even though the feds are trying to keep him away from his grind, he prepared for hiatus unlike anyone ever has before him.
This is because he recorded literally thousands of records prior to his imprisonment, giving his team an influx of tracks that could be released sporadically over the years to give fans new music whenever we need it most. While these tracks haven’t been dropped in abundance so far in 2022, I’m hoping this pause is coming to an end for a while thanks to his brand-new Mike Free-produced song “Drop Down” featuring KenTheMan.
The mischievous melody combined with the speaker shaking drums and intricate hats combine to give the beat a personality almost as large as these two spitters, but Greedo shows from the moment he jumps into his part that he is a larger-than-life artist that could never be overshadowed, continuing this supremacy until Ken comes in.
When she does, her conviction and confidence are undeniably enthralling, so if there was even a slight chance that you got distracted, she gives you no choice but to listen up and pay attention. “Drop Down” is a single off of Free 03, an upcoming project that Greedo and his team are working on putting out, and while details are still scarce, I’ll be sure to stay tapped in so I don’t miss out on any notable news moving forward.
