Down Bad – [Juxi]

As I’ve mentioned in previous writeups, I like to believe that humans are, by nature, a resilient stock. When tragedy strikes, the gut reaction is to push back, and if not anything else, this context is a comforting reminder that we’re all fighters at heart, even when things just won’t go our way. For Boston native Juxi, a frequent flyer here at Lyrical Lemonade, such is the case, as the budding talent recently experienced the untimely passing of his cousin and local legend, Corey Dash. Today, keeping his head up and sticking to the plan, Juxi is back with a brand new single, “Down Bad.”

Paying homage to his cousin in the song’s artwork, “Down Bad” certainly connects to the recent passing, but even more so, it’s a widespread reminder for us all that life is short. No matter how tough things get, it’s never worth spending the time and energy to get down on oneself. Rather, these tough times should remind us of the bigger vision at hand and the fact that one day, we’ll be able to reflect on “those days” with anthemic soundtracks such as “Down Bad” to assist.

That said, in regards to songwriting, the line between heartfelt and motivational here is what allows Juxi to strike a chord in listeners. His well-developed understanding of melodies shines through on the song’s earworm of a hook, and the knocking percussion is sure to iron out the background with a rhythmic form of structure as the cherry on top.

In all, for Boston listeners and beyond, “Down Bad” is a resilient anthem for the summer and a much-needed push for better days to come. Juxi has done it once again, so be sure to show some love and check out the new song below!
