Seat Pleasant, MD rapper Keezah has been one of the hottest names in all of the DMV underground for over a year now, mainly due to his collaborative efforts with fellow artist Kayvo that have been his most notable releases thus far but his new solo-project Dope Boy Dreams Keezah takes on all but two tracks alone, refining his decidedly-DMV sound that has never been too fond of melody and might grow old quickly to the untrained ear but Keezah’s staccato bars never fail to paint a grim and ghastly look at his life and all of the headaches that come from drug dealing, both watching out for those who wish to knock him off and the junkies who fund his trap but provide constant headaches because of their nonsensical fiending to which Keezah must both entertain and protect himself against.
The Namz produced “Racing” is my favorite song off of the entire project as Keezah stomps all over the beat with his albeit simple yet impactful bars that sparsely paint pictures without overdoing it on the descriptors or useless lines, which in my opinion is much more impressive than the traditional ‘lyrical’ style where rappers try and overwhelm you with tongue twisting lyrics, but Keezah has no time for this and tells you exactly what it is and exactly what it isn’t without any of the extra fluff. He is joined by underground legend Lil Dude for “Rubberband Man” which features the duo trading bars over the speaker-thumping instrumental that is menacing and industrial and Dude and Keezah’s flows are all business and clear-headed. “4 Days” is another great instrumental that is sporadic and asymmetrical but cranks regardless and Keezah proves that he can skate on just about any beat on every track across this tape. Money Reek joins Keezah on “Drought” which has a characteristically DMV sound between the simple but thumping percussion and simple and ominous piano melody. Dope Boy Dreams comes to a close with the MarrBandUp produced “Missile” which is a groovy and forboding beat that shows exactly why he has become one of the go-to producers in his area, especially for this grim sound.
Keezah has been an underground favorite for some time now and it is somewhat safe to say that he and Kayvo are probably your favorite rappers’ favorite rappers, in their area particularly and it is only a matter of time before the rest of the world realizes their greatness.
