Doja – [$NOT] ft. [A$AP Rocky]

I don’t think it’s even slightly a stretch to say that $NOT had one of, if not the biggest years in music in 2021. Even though he didn’t actually release any full-length albums last year, he was able to still ride high off of his album Beautiful Havoc that dropped towards the end of 2020 by going on tour and dropping other singles as well as guest spots on other tracks that seemed to get more addicting with every new release. I don’t know how he’s going to top some of the unforgettable music that he has released so far, but if anyone can do it, $NOT certainly can.

Over the past few weeks, we have received some incredible news in the form of the announcement of the New York-born, Florida-raised phenom’s upcoming album Ethereal that’s set to release next week on February 11th, and although it was a long wait, I know it’s going to be undeniably worth it. Although there haven’t been too many singles released quite yet, the buzz has been at an all-time high thanks to the release of the tracklist which includes 14 tracks as well as a plethora of insane features from artists like Trippie Redd, Kevin Abstract, Juicy J, Joey Bada$$ and more, proving that this is going to be an album for the ages without a doubt in my mind.

Along with this, one of the biggest teasers that I have been waiting for is his single “Doja” which features A$AP Rocky, and even though I grew as impatient as possible, now that this track is out, I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome. Produced by Dee B, the track kicks off with some angelic and mischievous vocal chops that are torn apart thanks to piercing percussion and speaker-busting 808s that breathe insane levels of aggression and energy into the picture.

$NOT wastes no time getting animated with his words, absolutely screaming certain bars at the top of his lungs before calming down and showing off the polar opposite personas that he has displayed throughout his constantly growing and thriving career. When Rocky comes in later on, he acts as the equalizer, delivering some of his calm, cool, and collected lyrics in a very smooth and effortless manner that juxtaposes $NOT’s parts but also works seamlessly with them as well. All in all, this song couldn’t get any better even in my wildest dreams, and the HIDJI-directed music video makes “Doja” even more of a spectacle, resulting in an absolutely perfect release on all fronts that is sure to get fans more than thrilled about the upcoming album.
