I don’t think it’s an unthinkable thing to say that ILoveMakonnen had one of the most unique and intriguing rises to fame in recent memory. Although I might not have been quite as tapped in with music back when he blew up as I am now, I just feel like I had never once even heard of him, and then one day, he was the biggest name in music. I think that he is the pinnacle of someone who knows how to network because after reading a bit more about his start in the industry, I realized that he got his start by surfing through social media and connecting with other up-and-coming acts.
It was online that he connected with some of the biggest producers in the world like Mike Will Made who eventually connected him with Metro Boomin, Sonny Digital, and 808 Mafia, so it kind of makes sense that with so many hitmakers in his corner, he was destined for greatness. The interesting thing is that musically, he had anything he could ever want at his disposable, but he decided to do things how he wanted to and revert to his own little world that he knew true fans would appreciate much more than if he went on to become a total mainstream sensation.
Regardless, Makonnen truly needs no introduction, and neither does the brand-new Shot by Big Mike-shot music video for his Summer22 hit “Dead Prez Freestyle”. Even if this isn’t the most viral track he has ever recorded, it still has that indescribably catchy aesthetic that is brought to new levels in the video as he seems to travel around the world to a myriad of lovely settings. While the budget for this one might not be the largest and the effects aren’t taken too far, I think that Makonnen is going to shine regardless of the situation, and the video for his record “Dead Prez Freestyle” certainly won’t let you forget that anytime soon.
