The wait is over. Meek Mill’s highly anticipated fourth studio album Championships is here. Meek’s gone through hell within the past couple of years, as his image and brand took a hit with his beef with Drake and with him being wrongfully incarcerated. However, now it seems as if the Philadelphia emcee is winning and trending back in the right direction. On top of that, outside of music, Meek has been an active voice for criminal justice reform.
If I were to summarize Championships, I’d say this is Meek’s success story. The 19-track project has a wide array of topics being discussed and while, yes, he talks about flexing, Meek also dives into personal growth, prison parallels, and social injustices across America. The project doesn’t lack star power from its feature list as well with Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Future, Cardi B, Kodak Black and even a surprise Drake verse showing up on Championships. Some of the early standout tracks include “What’s Free”, “Intro”, and “Respect the Game”, in my opinion. Hopefully, this album is well received, and Meek Mill continues to push the envelop artistically and to continue to use his platform outside of music to spark change.
