Cement Shoes – [Blackwinterwells] x [Chach]

The world of Blackwinterwells has certainly never been one to follow any given conventions whatsoever; whether it’s through her ever-changing and ever-dynamic artistic approaches, her tendency to bring any and all artists into this world that she sees fit, or by simply standing alone as a pop act unlike any ever observed up to this point in the history of the genre.

As practically every single angle that she brings to the forefront falls under this sentiment, so too should her string of singles leading up to her upcoming project Stone Ocean — as both of these tracks have come to stand against what may be considered a “traditional” album rollout in their solemn, gloomy, and sheerly atmospheric demeanor about them.

Though the former track “Marrow” stood out as at least something of a gripping and grooving track on its own, the latter and most recent offering “Cement Shoes” is anything but your traditional single leading up to such a momentous occasion, based simply on the fact that it exudes nothing short of an “album track” aura in both its narrative structure and pure sound alike.

The song is an awe-inspiring experience that practically transports the listener into this unfounded world that Wells has worked to create via her past string of releases by themselves. Her always consistent and fluttering vocals shine through as the track’s main feature yet again here, as they provide quite a stern presence against the rest of the song’s aspects.

Chach makes an emphatic and charged guest appearance here, providing one of his most vivid and all-around best verses he has ever laid down. His correspondence with this track’s aura-filled and emotionally-tinged presence is convincingly one-to-one — a fact especially true with how well his vocals stand atop the fleeting and ambient instrumental provided by Odece and Jeremyx213, with Wells’s own vocals also accomplishing the same feat in the process.

While not being your conventional final single leading up to an album release, that fact only supplements a far greater amount of intrigue into what may make up this ever-so-obviously staggering project that Wells has in store for the world. Perhaps the only way to embody what might be a one-of-a-kind album is to release these one-of-a-kind singles, and that is exactly what she has done here.
