One of the numerous key factors going into how contemporary pop music is shaping up to look like in the coming years is the essence of unbridled and transparent emotion seeping its way into the themes of each song released under this tag. More and more are rising pop acts letting what can only be described as their truest self spill everything out on the tracks that they lay down — which in turn creates a nuanced trend that spells out a new type of popstar for the coming years based on this fact alone.
Among these acts is the ever-prominent Midwxst, who has made a consistent living off of integrating his experiences with reality on an emotional level into his music from both a subdued standpoint and an upfront one as well. His latest offering falls under the former category — as he’s joined by both 8485 and Blackwinterwells on a soft and tranquil single entitled “By Your Side.”
This track not only stands to prove how this new mold of pop stardom applies to Midwxst himself, but it also goes to show how both Wells and Eighty both take this concept and run with it with nothing but the most outstanding results.
The song itself is a moving experience that treats listeners to three minutes of emotional vulnerability at its most vivid and sincere levels from all three given artists, but what makes it so enjoyable in the end is how the three take on this concept in their own unique ways.
Where Wells delivers a simplistic chorus that does enough to bring all of the themes of insecure departures and longingness, Eighty takes these themes and goes the extra mile by offering a vivid look into how this experience affects her head-on by giving a detailed description of the circumstance.
But the entire song is surrounded by two verses from Midwxst himself that are simply resounding in their emotional weight, structure, and representation of the themes at hand. Take any and all hints of insecurities, anxiety, and the concept of unknowingness and apply them all to his current state as an artist and a human being alike, and these verses will match that description to an absolute tee — culminating in an absolutely remarkable song when it’s all said and done.
