In most cases, nowadays, I find that my introduction to many artists tends to be via loose single or a music video. These short, easily-digestible offerings are what seem to catch the eyes and ears of fans right off the bat, so I always find it to be an intriguing phenomenon when I discover an artist through a full album. Such is the case with one of my latest finds, Jasper Typical, who just dropped off a brand new project entitled Brother.
10 tracks long, I had no idea what to expect heading into this project, but now that I’ve reached the other end, I can truly only describe this one as a journey. It’s versatile, switching sounds and styles up throughout, but in the oddest, most satisfying of ways, it maintains a profound sense of cohesivity that almost transcends explanation. Jasper Typical seemingly finds a way to connect with the listener upon the opening moments of the project, and from there, it feels like less you’re listening to an album by someone you’ve never met and more like you’re fighting a battle with someone on the same team.
That said, Brother isn’t all butterflies and rainbows, but it’s real. It’s human, it’s imperfect, it’s curious, and it isn’t easy to categorize. Rather, this project seems as though it’s the result of growth, painful or triumphant as this growth can feel at times. Jasper Typical has reached a pocket of sound and emotion that I’m not necessarily used to as a listener, but can definitely appreciate from both an artistic and a personal standpoint.
All things considered, this album is an unbelievable sonically and thematically, so I would highly recommend that all of our readers out there check it out. Jasper Typical is beyond exciting, and this project is sure to act as proof!
