For starters, having released a 71-track project called Text While Driving If You Want To Meet God, there’s a lot more to London-based producer Vegyn than just his credits on some of Frank Ocean’s recent work. Put simply, I don’t think there exists a single producer or creative, for that matter, that I can compare to the budding talent, as releases like his most recent two-part offering — “Blue Verb” and “Cowboy ALLSTAR” — solidify Vegyn as one-of-a-kind, to say the least.
With this in mind, upon watching each of his two new music videos as well as spending some time with the songs, themselves, I must say that these two releases are striking for a very similar reason — they both present something that listeners probably aren’t sure how to digest. On one hand, “Blue Verb” lets loose an absolutely spectacular beat with two electrifying dancers to match, while on the other hand, “Cowboy Allstar” pairs a Michael Jackson impersonator with lively production and even some horse sounds along the way.
Sure, it’s easy to pass off Vegyn’s work as “experimental,” but there’s something far more intriguing here than such a simple label. The masterful collision of music and visual work seems to spark a feeling unlike really anything else out right now, and furthermore, the sheer simplicity of the music videos in comparison to the songs is what feels so out-of-place.
“Blue Verb” and “Cowboy ALLSTAR” both operate in unmarked waters, creating sensations that until now, I’m not sure I’ve ever had any experience with. For this exact reason and more, the art says far more than my words ever could, so don’t just take word for it — click play on the newest work from Vegyn below!
