Block boy – [Tm88] & [Pi’erre Bourne]

Producers are some of the most important people in hip-hop, yet I feel like they don’t get nearly enough credit for creating sonic landscapes to put some major artists in the position to create hits, because without a great beat, a song’s success is definitely limited. For Pi’erre Bourne, he is a talent that began his career behind the decks creating soundscapes for some of your favorite artists in existence, and his famous producer tag is definitely nothing new to you.

Although his production skills are pretty much unmatched in the current landscape of music, he also has been grinding hard to make a name for himself as an emcee, and I think his rapping abilities are grossly underrated and deserve so much more recognition. The fact that he knows exactly how to help himself thrive on a song that he produced himself is one thing, but when he teams up with other producers to try out a new approach, the entire story changes.

After teaming up with hitmaker Tm88, they brought “Block boy” to life, and I don’t think it could’ve turned out any better than it did. The instrumental contains some prominent synths that combine with piano keys, tapping percussion and thunderous drums for a prevailing base that Pi’erre absolutely destroys. So many different deliveries are on display from the rising rapper, whether he calms himself to spit some straightforward bars, stretches his vocals to show off his range, or anything in between, he always shows himself at the top of his game, and I was blown away by this record.

There are even moments where his background vocals can be heard pitched up, adding a different element to the track that provides uniqueness and depth that I was fascinated by. Although Pi’erre seems to always have something up his sleeve, his collaboration with Tm88 is something you’re not going to want to miss out on, so make sure to peep the brand-new song below as soon as possible.
