Elajah Mouhammed is a groundbreaking New York artist, who was born in the Bronx and has found himself all over the big city. From living in a Bronx shelter to eventually landing in Queens, he is not only a defining artist for his neighborhood but also a true voice of the city. Elajah is an artist and songwriter whose authentic sound in music is ever-changing. Starting his musical journey at a young age, he used his music as a remedy, during a time of continuous adversity. As a kid from Jamaica, Queens with the desire to create his own legacy Elajah has always looked at self-made artists like Kanye West, Tyler The Creator, and Childish Gambino as his artistic inspiration. Looking up to artists most often misunderstood, he can relate to feeling out of place in this world and hope to use his music to connect with others who feel the same. Elajah now turns his focus on his latest music video, “Battle of The Bastards” and gives us the scoop saying, “The video idea really stemmed from the very poignant yet melancholy meaning of the song. When we first started planning it out we knew that it had to be more on the playful side than anything because it easily could have been some melodramatic thing and we wanted to get as far away from that as possible. So in came the pink set light green bucket hats, and matching outfits we knew we had to harken back to those early years of life when things were so much simpler watching tv and eating your favorite cereal.” Considering the song is about inner conflicts and insecurities you don’t really experience until your older it was really important that the video comes off as warm and inviting literally down to having a guest over for breakfast. However the guest here just so happens to be the main characters inner conscience and the only person who can really understand what he’s thinking and with that he’s able to let go and embrace his flaws.
