Aw Man – [Project88Icon]

Some artists rise into the spotlight so fast that it’s seemingly impossible for me to keep up with all the moves that they’ve made. While I respect the hell out of them for having such a unique and catchy sound, I also question myself as to how I managed to miss the boat early on, so now I feel like I have to play the catch-up game in order to make sure that I don’t miss out on any more exciting things that they have going on in their world.

Project88Icon is one of these talents because he has blown up in what feels like the blink of an eye and has even placed songs on both the soundtrack for NBA 2K21 as well as the show Fairfax on Amazon Prime. He was born in Dallas but spent a ton of time traveling back and forth between Texas and Atlanta, so I think this migration has helped him form such a unique style that seems to meld the best of both of those scenes together, and it no longer makes me question why he blew up because it was kind of meant to be at this point.

He just seems to be able to do it all when it comes to rapping and singing, so after mastering both of these skills, he uses them to his advantage while giving listeners a variety of sounds on a single song. Just a few days ago, 88 dropped a new single called “Aw Man” produced by the iconic Bankroll GotIt and Go Grizzly that boasts an intoxicating guitar melody and pungent bass.

In this one, he seems to lean more into his singing capabilities than rapping, but I’m not hating because his notes are smooth and catchy while still including some unignorable bars that are just too intriguing to dismiss. Even the ShotByChristian-directed video is extremely entertaining, so this is yet another release from the rapidly rising up-and-comer that you need on your radar moving forward.
