Shreveport, Louisiana is certainly not a historic place where hip-hop has thrived but similarly to most mid-size cities across the south their rap scene has been growing and improving, and many are only starting up for the first time. Now it is no surprise to me that Shreveport has caught the street fever given the city’s various statistical shortcomings or geographic similarities and proximities to places like Baton Rouge and New Orleans which have respectively greatly paved the way for Louisiana rap music. SodBankroll is quite possibly the hottest artist in Shreveport currently and his sound is very similar to many of his counterparts across his state with the notable twangy bounce that has become synonymous with Louisiana rap being one of the first sounds you first hear in the up-tempo instrumental. Bankroll talks his shit up-and-down this beat and walked all over it poppin’ his shit and blazing a trail through a city that’s musical reputation doesn’t quite match how dangerous and derelict a place like Shreveport can get. I am eager to watch SodBankroll keep dropping music and improving as an artist as well as seeing how the rest of Shreveport can match Bankroll’s rise and energy.
