East Atlanta is probably just about the most fertile breeding ground for rap talent in just about the whole world and with precise consistency new artists emerge on a monthly basis and it is becoming standard for the newcomers of this latest 2020 class of new rappers to all try to come in the game with something different or unique about themselves which is greatly differing from the year or two of the same very saturated trap sound first popularized by Young Thug dominated the city’s sonic status quo that seems like ages ago in the time of Covid-19.
BlueFace Bolo and his “FuckFriends” or “2F” for short affiliates each work to stake their own claim on their hometown as it is now their turn to set the precedent for what is trendy on the genre’s most grassroots level. Bolo’s flows are staccato and calculated with razor sharp precision and he skates all over the various beats he jumps on. His new mixtape All Blue On My End is a solid performance from the young artist from start to finish and is truthfully my favorite work from Bolo yet and it has been really fun to watch him, as well as his frequent collaborators YS and Calaso Check, develop alongside each other, creating a formidable audience in their city from scratch and taking the styles of the many great Atlantans who came before then and morphed them into their own unique but familiar style which is something that sounds easy in theory but is practically a very difficult thing to achieve.
There are several memorable tracks on this project from the intro and title track that he absolutely skates all over which bleeds directly into his second track “Gang Business” featuring the aforementioned YS and Calaso Check and the three tag team this track with perfect chemistry. “Glenwood Baby” is one of the hardest cuts from the entirety of All Blue On My End and the track which memorializes the road that runs through their section of East Atlanta and the 88Wlf production is trunk-shaking and set at a perfect tempo for Bolo to do what he does. He recruited one of Atlanta’s foremost underground staples in 95REDDO to assist him on “Manning” and Reddo comes onto the track with his distinctive whispering flow and complements Bolo with ease and I hope that Reddo continues to work with the 2F crew as his songs with YS and Calaso Check are just as memorable. The trio meets back up for the outro titled “No Plug” where they take turns trading bars over the upbeat instrumental and the 2F flow did nothing but grow on me from the mixtape’s start to finish. I am really excited to hear BlueFace Bolo continue to develop as an artist and see what other collaborations he has coming in the future.
