GOON DES GARCONS* is a Los Angeles based rapper who hails from Little Rock, Arkansas who has made quite the name for himself over the past couple of years, establishing his unique blend of high art and aesthetic attention to detail with normally grim and industrial sounds that often center around themes like the end of the world or high fashion. His latest track “A24” features Mexican-American singer Cuco who slides on the thumping beat with an aspirational and wavey guest verse and while this collaboration would have been a fantastic one if its origins were the traditional story of an artist reaching out to a bigger act for a feature, but some of “A24’s” magic derives from how exactly the track came about.
Goon told me that he and Cuco met completely by chance at a party and didn’t even know who each other were, but nonetheless hit it off and ended up meeting up at the studio and recording this song just weeks later. I really enjoyed this track and am eager to see what other unexpected collaborations both Goon Des Garcons* and Cuco have on the way this year.
