One of my favorite breakout artists of 2020 has to be an up and comer who goes by the name of Kings Elliot. After first stepping on to the scene back in November of last year, the singer/songwriter made herself known with an impressive debut that consisted of the song, “I’m Getting Tired of Me”. The emotion filled ballad gave us a look in to a new side of creative artistry that I haven’t seen before. It was raw and transparent and honest and truthful…A debut that we rarely see from artists who are just starting to release music. Kings Elliot is a star and I don’t say that lightly. She knows her sound, she knows ver voice and she knows who she wants to be in this music industry.
This past week, the UK based artist made her second appearance on DSP’s for the release of her brand new song called, “Dancing Alone”. As expected, she has created a beautiful work of art that NEEDS to be listened to. Instead of just writing a regular article that encapsulates how this song made me feel, I decided to shoot some questions over to Kings Elliot to learn more about her and who she is! If you’ve got some time, make sure to check out the following conversation with Kings Elliot!
—
Sam: In one word, describe 2020.
Kings Elliot: testing
—
Sam: What did this past year mean for you personally/musically?
Kings Elliot: It was a really important year for me, because despite all the difficulties, I released my debut song which gave me the fuel to push forward when I felt like giving up before I’d even started.
—
Sam: What’s something you learned about yourself during quarantine?
Kings Elliot: I learnt that I have stronger resolve than I thought I had!
—
Sam: Did you expect to receive the reaction that you did on your latest song?
Kings Elliot: I worked hard for this, but I genuinely didn’t expect any support. I had no idea if what I made was worthy of any attention, when there are thousands of amazing songs released every day. I am beyond grateful for the love I have received and it just makes me want to work harder.
—
Sam: What are you most excited for in 2021?
Kings Elliot: Releasing more music. I can’t describe how cathartic it feels to put something you’ve spent hours, days or weeks or even months on out into the world.
—
Sam: What/Who is your musical inspiration?
Kings Elliot: I’ve actually taken a lot of inspiration from Disney movies from the 40s/50s that my mum used to put on for me growing up. I love the eerie melancholia of the soundtracks – but my main source of inspiration is any kind of pain from the past, present or future – I can basically anticipate what I’m going to feel in a situation that hasn’t occurred and write a song about it haha!
—
Sam: Tell me about this new song that you have coming up. What’s the meaning behind it?
Kings Elliot: ‘Dancing Alone’ is probably the only ‘romantic’ song I’ve written so far. It’s about wanting a relationship to work, when you struggle with your mental health. It can be REALLY tough at the best of times… so the song is me preparing someone for how hard it’s going to be and walking them through every step of ‘the dance’ they will have to learn in order get through the darkest days with me!
—
Sam: How do you want people to feel when they hear your music?
Kings Elliot: I want my songs to sweep you into another world, some beautifully tragic fantasy world and if I can make one person feel less alone with their suffering, then it all makes sense to me.

I most certainly speak for myself and many others when I say that Kings Elliot is most definitely someone to keep an eye on this year. With 2 songs already underneath her belt, I truly believe that she has what it takes to not only become a household name, but to become an inspiration for anyone who listens to her music. I’ve attached the Spotify link down below to her latest song, so give this one a listen and let us know what you think!
